Ensembles

The Hempfield Jazz Band has a great reputation of excellence within our community. The jazz band is an audition ensemble, which happens in September. With the exception of rhythm section instruments, students must participate in the marching and concert band to audition for Jazz Band.​ In addition to playing several concerts throughout the year, the group plays throughout the Greensburg community and greater Western Pennsylvania. The band has performed in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Hawaii. In 2015 the band was honored to perform with guitarist Chuck Loeb of the Grammy winning jazz quartet Foreplay. The band has also entertained at our State Capital, Universal's City Walk and at Disney Springs in Orlando.

The Spartan Marching Band​ has traveled coast to coast and performed for hundreds of thousands. Performances at the Tournament of Roses, Statue of Liberty, Flight 93 Memorial and Pearl Harbor are among the band’s most memorable. The band has also paraded in Disney World, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, and at many local events. In 2019 the band traveled to London, England, where they were invited to perform for the London New Year's Day Parade and Festival on January 1, 2020. 

The Hempfield Concert Band performs two concerts annually, in December and May. The band also performed in London for the festival accompanying London New Year's Day Parade. 

The Percussion Ensemble is an extension of the concert band, involving percussionists from the band as well as other student musicians interested in percussion. The group meets for class normally in the spring and performs at the spring concert.

Indoor Colorguard and Majorettes perform throughout the area in competitions during the winter months.
